8th Annual North Carolina Research Triangle Pulmonary Hypertension Symposium
Event Date: November 4, 2016
This is a one day symposium for pulmonologists, cardiologists, and healthcare providers. The goal of the community forum is to create a unique learning experience that integrates both adult learning and effective inter professional education principals, and emphasizes coordination of care. The focus of the symposium is to fortify the knowledge base of physicians and other allied health professionals treating and managing Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension. The goal is to keep healthcare providers abreast of the ever-changing diagnostic and treatment paradigms in this patient population. The symposium will address issues as it is related to appropriate diagnostic procedures, proper treatment choices, and timing of referral to pulmonary hypertension centers for more advanced care of the pulmonary hypertension patient.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Describe classification of Pulmonary Hypertension, according to the Fifth World Symposium classifications
- Recognize and distinguish similar disease processes that may or may not respond to PAH specific therapy
- Identify appropriate treatment choices based on available evidence
- Recognize when treatment responses are suboptimal and when referral to a specialty center is appropriate
- Understand long term management of PAH Patients
- Identify and employ important non-pharmacologic interventions in the management of PAH
