Duke Heart Advanced Practice Provider Symposium: A Focus on Cardiovascular Medicine and Cardiothoracic Surgery

September 29, 2018

In order to reduce the incidence of cardiovascular disease and its negative implications for the health of patients, providers must be aware of and understand current and new evidence as rapidly as possible in order to facilitate the adoption of practice guidelines by physicians and other health care providers responsible for the cardiovascular care of patients. Advanced practice providers (APPs), which include Nurse Practitioners (NPs) and Physician Assistants (PAs) in the acute and primary care setting, are on the front lines of patient care and must be current in their understanding of care guidelines, evidenced based practice, and new technologic advances in order to apply them effectively in their clinical practice. Thus, there is an educational need to present current and new evidenced based care guidelines concisely so that APPs may make informed changes to their clinical practice with confidence. This symposium will highlight current guidelines, evidenced based practice, diagnostic, technologic, and procedural advances, and clinical applications in a clear and concise manner aimed to improve outcomes in patients with cardiovascular disease. In addition, there will be a focus on models of care including transitional care, bundles in cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery, and care re-design aimed to optimize utilization of resources to deliver efficent and excellent clinical care.
