PPMD's Neuromuscular Coordinator Preconference Meeting 2022
PPMD is excited to host a one-day meeting for CDCC nurses and coordinators on Wednesday, June 22nd preceding the Summit. We invite nurses, advanced practice nurses, and team members working in clinic and/or research coordinator roles to participate with a goal to publishing a report exploring scope, roles and responsibilities, and barriers to practice.

Explore survey results among nurses and advanced practice nurses who work in neuromuscular coordinator roles.
Explore similarities and differences of neuromuscular coordinator roles and responsibilities across institutions to better understand the current practices.
Discuss perceived roles and responsibilities of the neuromuscular coordinator with physicians working within the disciplinary neuromuscular team.
Discuss experience working with hospital administration to better understand roles and responsibilities of the neuromuscular coordinator to provide support when necessary to provide consistent care for patients with complex neuromuscular disorders, including Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
Explore roles and responsibilities of the neuromuscular coordinator role relative to scope of practice of the nurse vs. advanced practice nurse.
Discuss the relationship of over-utilization and burnout in the neuromuscular coordinator role to understand if it can be avoided to improve retention.
Explore solutions to narrow roles and responsibilities, establish boundaries, and protect neuromuscular coordinators from over-utilization and burnout.
Discuss the role of the nurse and advanced practice nurse in neuromuscular research teams to drive the field forward.
Discuss process for developing quality improvement projects that may improve care practices of patients with neuromuscular disorders, including Duchenne muscular dystrophy
Discuss a model for the neuromuscular coordinator to provide guidance for creating job descriptions for the neuromuscular coordinator with appropriate roles and responsibilities that parallel scope of practice.
