Spirituality and Medicine
This class is a presentation by Dr. Farr Curlin, related to his experience both as practicing physician and also a professor at Duke Theological Seminary. This will be a talk where Dr. Curlin shows the intersections between spirituality and the practice of medicine at the end of life. As patients and family members transition through end of life care, questions of meaning and loss of connection often arise that may be unfamiliar and difficult to navigate. To provide competent spiritual care, hospice workers must become aware of how important making meaning of life becomes, and how important it is to have communities of support. These factors inform the delivery of care. This session will provide an opportunity to recognize and explore spiritual issues that may emerge at end of life, and in that way appropriate referrals may be made to spiritual care providers.
