Currently, there is no succinct, complete obesity "story" that fully explains the pathophysiology of the disease, the mechanism of action of agents that can treat obesity and the complexity of treating obese patients who have concomitant conditions. The purpose of this activity is to provide physicians with needed education on the treatment of obesity, due to the increasing prevalence of the disease in this geographic area.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:
- Identify the pathophysiologic mechanisms behind initial weight gain and failure to sustain weight loss in obese persons,
- Compare and contrast the administration, efficacy, and safety of pharmacologic weight loss agents
- Evaluate disease severity in obese patients and design individual treatment regimens that match each patient's needs and characteristics.
