This course is intended to be an overview of the Imeplla ventricular assist device.

- Review of the Impella ventricular assist devices
- Mechanism of action
- Review of device purge solution
- Review of device settings
- Review of device preparation and steps for implantation
- Review of steps for device explant
- Review of common device alarms
Part 3 of the course is an evaluation of learner's didactic knowledge and technical ability
- Attend a hands-on training assessment which includes the following:
- Turn on console
- Simulate pump preparation and prime
- Turn the pump on
- Adjust settings (p-level etc.)
- Perform module exchange
- Turn the pump off

After completing this course, the learner should be able to:
- Locate and review the on-line policy and procedures
- Perform all necessary equipment assembly, priming, operation, and troubleshooting of device
- Review proper steps and procedures for primary implant, exchange, and explant
- Able to perform any necessary patient teaching required of Perfusionist
- Knows proper documentation of all aspects of procedure relevant to Perfusion Services Department (paper forms and EPIC), as well as patient charges.
