This course is intended to be an overview of the ANH procedure.

Part 3 of the course is an evaluation of learner's didactic knowledge and an optional hands-on session with a superuser

  • Simulate blood collection
  • Simulate storage

After completing this course, the learner should be able to:

• Locate and review the on-line policy and procedures
• Perform all necessary equipment assembly, priming, operation, and troubleshooting of the ANH setup
• The ability to calculate estimated blood volume to be removed
• Review proper steps and procedures for collecting, storing, and returning blood
• Understand the importance of maintaining a continuous circuit for the Jehovah Witness patient population, as well as, their core beliefs supporting a refusal of blood products
• Knows proper documentation of all aspects of procedure relevant to Perfusion Services Department (paper forms and EPIC), as well as patient charges.
