Southeastern Cardio-Oncology Conference The Future is Now
Cardio oncology is a multidisciplinary and collaborative specialty that addresses cardiac care of patients with cancer. Many cancer treatments and therapies have cardiac implications, adding complexity and risk of cardiac insult. With new anti-cancer treatments, a larger number of people living longer with or after cancer, and an aging population who often present with co-morbidities at diagnosis, cardiovascular disease has emerged as a major cause of morbidity and mortality for cancer patients. As valuable members of a multidisciplinary team, health care providers in primary care, oncology, and cardiology need to learn to assess, recognize, and manage cardiovascular risk factors and disease in patients with cancer. Amyloidosis, a rare disease, presents additional challenge.
