Duke Skilled Nursing Skills Day 2025

The 2025 Duke SNF Skilled Nursing Skills Day is an event that will bring together local skilled nursing facilities in the triangle who are part of the Duke SNF HOPE Collaborative to learn, demonstrate, and receive vital educational benefits. Duke health system experts and other device experts will teach the skills. The skills day will highlight the educational gap noted by local skilled nursing facilities on topics such as: TPN, Non-Invasive Trilogy, Life Vest, Chest Vest, Trach Care, and Hospice and Palliative Care

Learning Objectives
- Describe Hospice & Palliative Care and the differences between them.
- Identify some of the characteristics of patients that would be appropriate for palliative care or hospice services.
- Identify the special needs of patients who require palliative and hospice intervention.
- Identify some communication tips for how to discuss these services with a patient/family.
- Demonstrate the use of the ZOLL life vest
- Identify the various medical conditions that will use and require the ZOLL Life Vest.
- Learn how to troubleshoot the device
- Review resources related to the Life Vest and how to receive support TPN
- Identify the various nutritional needs of individuals who are using TPN
- Explore the differences in regular TPN verses TPN with Lipids
- How to note and ensure that patients in the SNF are getting proper nutrition
- Identify tips and tricks to administering and ordering TPN
- Review resources related to the TPN Chest Vest
- Demonstrate the use of the Chest vest
- Identify the various medical conditions that will use and require the Chest Vest.
- Learn how to troubleshoot the device and recognize effectiveness
- Review resources related to the Chest Vest and how to receive support for the device from experts Trach Care
- Be able to perform adequate tracheostomy care and cleaning practices
- Identify potential complications with the use of tracheostomy
- Review resources and acquire materials and knowledge to troubleshoot and provide better support and outcomes for patients in skilled nursing facilities with tracheostomies
- Demonstrate the use of a Non-Invasive Trilogy Machine
- Acquire knowledge and comfort using the Trilogy Machine
- Identify the various medical conditions that require the use of a Trilogy Machine
- Identify the multiple uses of the Trilogy Device
- Learn how to troubleshoot the device, be able to ask questions of experts, and learn how to seek assistance with device
- Understand the complex needs of patients who need palliative and hospice care, operate and troubleshoot the ZOLL life vest, and be able to articulate the use of TPN in the skilled nursing facility environment.
