North Carolina Antimicrobial Stewardship Conference

May 7, 2025

CMS requires that all acute care hospitals and certified nursing homes have an antimicrobial stewardship program. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that all healthcare settings take steps to improve antibiotic prescribing practices and outlined practical ways to initiate or expand antibiotic stewardship activities through its “Core Elements” guidance for outpatient clinics, hospitals, and nursing homes. The North Carolina Clinical Antibiotic Stewardship Partners (including Duke antimicrobial Stewardship Outreach Network, DASON) project supports care settings that wish to strengthen antibiotic stewardship across North Carolina with education, coaching, and resources to identify priorities for improving the appropriateness of antibiotic use and respond to regulatory and licensing requirements. The NC Antimicrobial Stewardship Conference will bring additional learning opportunities to stewardship practitioners with plenary sessions with statewide experts on antimicrobial resistance and stewardship; breakout sessions on common infectious disease diagnoses and challenges, effective collaborations with infection prevention and microbiology; with plenty of practical content to apply in facilities including sessions on quality improvement processes and effective communication; and opportunities to networks with colleagues from across the state.
