DCRI Evidence to Practice Series: Interventional Cardiology
The DCRI Evidence to Practice Series provides multiple, easy-to-access touch points for learners through both an accredited symposia series and monthly unaccredited audio podcast release. Interventional cardiology was selected as a topic of focus due to a rapidly growing body of research in this subject area, and the potential for that research to positively impact the millions of Americans who seek treatment from interventional cardiologists each year. Of particular relevance, new research is emerging around the complexity of therapeutic decision making, percutaneous coronary interventions, bioreabsorbable stents and valve replacement/repair. As these areas continue to evolve, interventional cardiologists and their cath lab teams cannot wait 17 years for new research results to reach them at the practice level. They must immediately understand the application of these new findings in order to provide optimal patient care.
Learning Objectives
Apply clinical practice guidelines to the management of patients with acute coronary syndromes and valvular stenosis.
Evaluate the strengths and limitations of new research evidence regarding the implementation, effectiveness, and safety of available therapies and devices used to treat patients.
Evaluate strategies healthcare providers can employ to encourage patient engagement in treatment decisions and promote adherence to medication post discharge.
