This workshop series addresses practical challenges faced by primary care clinicians in managing patients with multiple comorbidities. Case exercises incorporate several therapeutic areas to help illustrate best practices, evidence-based management, and broad clinical challenges, such as medication adherence and engaging patients in self-care.

Upon completion, participants should be able to:
Atherosclerosis
- Outline optimal lipid targets based on patient-specific characteristics
- Design guideline- and evidence-based treatment regimens for hyperlipidemia
- Identify strategies to engage patients in cardiovascular risk reduction
COPD/asthma
- Discuss the similarities and differences between COPD and asthma, considering pathophysiology, epidemiology, smoking status, and symptomatology.
- Outline a step-by-step plan to evaluate and diagnose patients who are being assessed for asthma or COPD
Depression
- Describe the most current strategies for screening and diagnosing depression
- Describe appropriate and timely follow-up for patients with depression during the acute-treatment phase.
- Initiate, monitor, and adjust appropriate therapeutic interventions for depression during the acute- and continuation-treatment phases
Diabetes
- Describe evidence and guideline-based recommendations for the comprehensive care of patients with T2DM
- Integrate incretin-based therapy in the management of T2DM based on clinical evidence and current guideline recommendations
- Implement strategies to overcome common barriers to insulin initiation in T2DM
Hypogonadism
- Identify signs, symptoms, risk factors, and comorbid conditions that portend increased risk of hypogonadism, and clearly communicate the association with declining testosterone levels to patients.
- Describe appropriate diagnostic procedures for suspected cases of hypogonadism
- Define potential risks and benefits of testosterone replacement therapy in hypogonadal men
Overactive bladder
- Identify the causes, signs, and manifestations of LUTS
- Describe diagnostic strategies for OAB that rule out other possible differential diagnoses
- Design evidence-based treatment strategies for patients with OAB that incorporate appropriate monitoring schedules
Osteoporosis
- Identify appropriate candidates for osteoporosis screening
- Describe validated fracture risk assessment techniques for patients with osteoporosis
- Design comprehensive treatment plans for patients with osteoporosis that incorporate pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic therapies
Rheumatoid arthritis
- Recognize signs and symptoms that are consistent with RA, and identify key elements in the differential diagnosis of joint pain
- Identify appropriate diagnostic tests when RA is suspected, and provide timely referrals to rheumatologists when indicated
- Identify appropriate monitoring parameters and supportive and preventive care measures for patients receiving DMARD therapy
