12TH SYMPOSIUM ON HEMOSTASIS
The symposium planned for 2026, will bring together leading experts to explore the latest advancements in hemostasis, thrombosis, and related fields. Key topics will include novel functions of the intrinsic pathway, endothelial homeostasis, innovative microfluidic devices for disease assessment, interplay between coagulation and cancer, modifications of fibrinogen in disease, and updates on thrombosis and hemostasis in women’s health. This conference aims to foster interdisciplinary collaboration and highlight innovative research that bridges the gap between basic science and clinical applications, ultimately advancing our understanding of blood coagulation and vascular health.
This is a public event, all information including registration can be found on our website: https://www.med.unc.edu/bloodresearchcenter/event/12th-symposium-on-hemostasis/

Learning Objectives
1. Describe the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying immunothrombosis, including the role of Factor XII, heme, and platelet-immune interactions in disease pathology.
2.Assess how endothelial dysfunction contributes to thrombotic risk, with emphasis on red cell deformability, lipid metabolism, and phosphatidylserine exposure.
3. Explain the mechanisms and clinical implications of cancer-associated thrombosis, including VWF and tissue factor roles in tumor biology and metastasis.
4. Evaluate evolving approaches to clinical management of thrombotic and bleeding disorders, including complications in transgender care, hemoglobinopathies, and thrombophilias.
5. Explore the applications of microfluidic and biomechanical systems in hematologic research and diagnostics, particularly in the context of trauma, transfusion medicine, and sickle cell disease.
6.Integrate knowledge of thromboinflammatory pathways across age groups and disease states to identify potential therapeutic strategies and improve patient care.
