2018 Annual Trauma Symposium

The challenges of providing quality trauma care continue. Trauma providers are expected to have advanced knowledge and skills in diagnosis, treatment and on‐going management. The goal of Duke University Hospital’s Trauma Symposium is to present the most current clinical information available about the care of the injured patient. To meet this goal, we have coordinated an outstanding program with faculty who are providing frontline care. This dynamic conference will address cutting edge trauma care issues.

Target Audience

Our target audience includes nurses, pre‐hospital providers, advanced practice providers, physicians and allied health professionals.

Learning Objectives

Describe key physical, psychological and social needs of the pediatric trauma patient
Analyze care provided to trauma patients, through the use of specific case studies.
Discussion of the recent active shooter incident that have occurred nationally to reveal that some traditional practices of
health system need to be realigned and enhanced to improve suitability of victims and the safety of staff
Improved awareness of the special considerations needed for the end of life care of the geriatric trauma patient.
Discuss the challenges and pitfalls of managing the airway of a trauma patient.
