AFFIRMATIVE PALLIATIVE CARE FOR TRANSGENDER AND GENDER DIVERSE INDIVIDUALS
Carly Elizabeth Kelley, M.D., M.P.H., E.C.N.U. presents on the stigma and discrimination that affects the transgender and gender diverse (TGD) community particularly with aging. In doing so she will define terms related to transgender identity and health and understand the importance of using gender affirming terminology and pronouns. She will discuss the unique needs, experiences, and preferences of TGD elderly adults as they plan for and approach end of life (EOL). This is an opportunity to inform hospice best practices for providing affirmative and inclusive palliative care for TGD individuals and helping them plan for an EOL that is filled with respect and dignity.
