ALS EDUCATION DAY
The ALS education day will assist in addressing the complex care needs specific to ALS(Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) patient care within the hospice setting. The information provided during the meeting will address identified knowledge gaps in care and enhance professional hospice caregivers' ability to negotiate the physical, psychosocial, and emotional care needs of the ALS hospice patient and their primary caregivers. Those receiving education during this session include social workers, chaplains, bereavement counselors, physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses and certified nursing assistants.

Review of current medications utilized in management of ALS.
Identify and manage common symptoms associated with ALS.
Identify barriers to communication and the appropriate options for available for support.
Understanding the role of BiPAP, current available DME (BiPAP, Cough assist, etc.) options, and increased competency in DME use.
Outlining of the benefit of the multidisciplinary ALS clinic team approach and the resources each unit within the team offers
