Disparities in Healthcare
In this interactive training, Dr. Kimberly S. Johnson will guide hospice staff through a focused exploration of racial disparities in end-of-life care, particularly affecting African American patients and families. Drawing from her nationally recognized research and leadership at the REACH Equity Center, Dr. Johnson will: 1) Highlight key factors contributing to inequities in hospice and palliative care. 2) Share findings from multi-site studies on patterns of care and organizational influences. 3) Discuss culturally sensitive communication strategies to improve trust and engagement. 4) Offer practical tools and interventions to promote equitable, patient-centered care. Participants will leave with a deeper understanding of how systemic and interpersonal dynamics affect hospice experiences and how they can contribute to more inclusive, compassionate care environments.
