DUKE CANCER NETWORK CANCER BASICS IV Enduring
Cancer Basics is an introductory course for nurses who are new to oncology nursing. This course provides the fundamentals of practice including pathophysiology of cancer, risk factors, incidence, diagnosis and management of common cancers, nursing management of cancer and cancer therapy side effects, oncologic emergencies, safe handling of chemotherapy, pain management and the psychosocial care of the cancer patient.

Learning Objectives
Define varying survivorship definitions Illustrate knowledge of the IOM's 4 components of survivorship care
Develop individualized survivorship plans based on associated physical and psychosocial needs, late side effects and recurrence of secondary cancers for melanoma, prostate, colorectal, breast and ovarian/uterine cancers
Improve knowledge of health equity and impact on survivorship care
Demonstrate knowledge of cancer specific resources to address cancer disparities
Describe anticipated survivorship needs based on diagnosis and promote resources to assist with any of these needs
