Duke Robotic Master Course: Advanced Techniques for General Surgeons

February 27, 2026 to February 28, 2026

Overview

  • The Duke Robotic Master Course: Advanced Techniques for General Surgeons brings together expert faculty from Duke to share the latest advances in robotic surgery techniques through video-based presentations, video case reviews, panel discussions, and hands-on robotic system demonstrations and interactive experiences. The course will focus on current, new, and upcoming advances in technology and practice for a diverse range of surgical specialties. Our faculty will engage in lively and vigorous discussions on topics and controversies faced by robotic surgeons as well as avenues for building and utilizing a surgical robotic program. This course offers hands-on robotic skills labs that display surgical innovation and provide an opportunity to learn and practice robotic techniques and enhance skill sets within a low faculty-to-participant environment. A variety of breakout sessions are offered to learners which include a deeper dive into robotic system utilization for specific surgical procedures as well as discussions on operative considerations and assisting techniques for a robotic OR Team, Advance Practice Practitioners, and First Assistants. All sessions are led by experts with extensive experience in robotic operative techniques and settings. The Duke Robotic Master Course: Advanced Techniques for General Surgeons brings together expert faculty from Duke to share the latest advances in robotic surgery techniques through video-based presentations, live-streamed OR cases, panel discussions, and hands-on experience. The course will focus on current, new, and upcoming advancements in technology and practice, the most complex cases, and recent research findings. Our faculty will engage in lively and vigorous debates and discussions on topics and controversies faced by robotic surgeons. This course offers a hands-on robotic skills lab that provides an opportunity to learn and practice robotic techniques with a low faculty-to-participant ratio. Breakout sessions are offered for Advance Practice Providers and First Assistants who assist in the OR to discuss operative considerations and assisting techniques. These sessions are led by expert Physician Assistants with extensive experience in first-assist robotic operative techniques.

Target Audience

  • The Duke Robotic Master Course: Advanced Techniques for general surgeons is designed for general surgeons, fellows/residents, APPs, and other operative personnel with a focus on community providers who do not work in an academic medical center, although all operative personnel are welcome. All surgeons and OR teams are welcome and will benefit from the course, especially those who have performed 20 cases or more.

Learning Objectives

  • Defining the advantages and technical considerations associated with robotic surgery in the management of basic and complex colorectal surgery, HPB surgery, complex abdominal wall reconstruction, and thoracic foregut surgery
  • Discussing the conduct of robotic surgery cases through analysis and critique of videos
  • Outlining the process by which technically advanced procedures may be incorporated into surgical practice
  • Describing controversial issues, emerging techniques, and future directions in robotic surgery
