ELECTROCONVULSIVE THERAPY – A PRACTICAL VIRTUAL COURSE - 5/7-5/9 2025

May 7, 2025 to May 9, 2025

The Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) Practical Virtual Course in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Duke University School of Medicine offers a virtual 3 day training experience four times a year. This Virtual Course provides clinicians with a practical ECT learning experience without the travel time and costs that would be necessary with an on-site course. This course follows in the footsteps of our former on-site Duke ECT course, which trained well over 1,000 psychiatrists from throughout the U.S., Canada, Europe, Asia and Australia. The present virtual 3 day course is focused on providing educational content directly relevant to administering ECT, including patient selection, pre-ECT evaluation and informed consent, ECT stimulus parameters and electrode placement, use of EEG monitoring, provision of ECT in patients with different diagnoses, ages, and medical comorbidities, anesthetic aspects, monitoring of treatment efficacy and side effects, management of both inpatients and outpatients during and following an acute ECT course, as well as potential future developments with this treatment modality. Considerable time during the course will be provided for answering questions from attendees, in addition to brief discussion of selected de-identified case material. Further information can be obtained from marisa.spurrell@duke.edu or psychectcourse@dm.duke.edu Four course dates: - 10/23-10/25 2024, 12/4-12/6 2024 2/19-2/21 2025, 5/7-5/9 2025
