End-of-Life Wound Management
This 60-minute course is designed to be a PowerPoint Presentation with pre-and post-assessment testing. It is focused on the assessment and treatment of end-of-life wounds. The end-of-life wound management course will review types of wounds found at end-of-life, complications/interventions consistent with evidence-based care planning from an interdisciplinary perspective, and include active learning activities to help solidify and enhance learning, and will conclude with clinical pearls. In addition, clinical tools, and education material for the clinicians and patient/families will be provided.
Learning Objectives
- Cognitive: Differentiate between common types of wounds found in hospice patients.
- Affective: Formulate an appropriate holistic approach to engaging patients and their families in discussion about wound management goals to develop a treatment plan.
- Psychomotor: Create a sample holistic individualized plan of care for a hospice patient that incorporates patient and family goals of care, anticipated wound regimen (nurse), anticipated complications (nurse) including psychosocial (social work) and spiritual concerns (chaplain), and necessary guidance the interdisciplinary team can provide at critical junctures throughout disease progression.
