- This course is primarily intended for health care providers who insert central venous catheters (CVCs). There is a separate course available from Duke Infection Control Outreach Network (DICON) for nurses who are involved in the care and maintenance of CVCs.

Learning Objectives
- Recognize appropriate indications for a CVC.
- Place central lines utilizing pertinent aseptic technique and infection control guidelines and confirm proper placement.
- Apply appropriate catheter care once the catheter is inserted.
- Identify and manage complications associated with central line insertion.
- Recognize when to remove the CVC.
