ForwardMORPHEUS PERIOPERATIVE MODULES

- This online course will help participants to improve their knowledge and understanding ofperioperative medicine. There are 10 modules that participants can access during the sixmonth duration of the course. They will listen to prerecorded lectures, study recommendedliterature, and answer multiple choice questions. The faculty for the course are all membersof the Morpheus Consortium, the collaboration between the Departments of Anesthesiologyof Duke University, University College London and University of Southampton. The facultymembers are all Attending Anesthesiologists (termed ‘Consultant Anesthetists’ in the UK).At the conclusion of the course, physicians that participate in and complete all the moduleswill receive CME certifi cates for 10 AMA Category 1 credits.

- Articulate the principles ofperioperative medicine
- Describe improved clinical pathways for surgical procedures andsub-populations.
- Evaluate measure of clinical outcomes.
- Evaluate preoperative physicalfi tness, identify modifi able risks ,and initiate appropriate clinical interventions to attainpreoperative optimization.
- Develop a Preanesthesia Surgical Screening pathway withassociated optimization programs.
- Explain the principles of informed consent and shareddecision-making.
- Promote the principles of multi-modal analgesia to reduce perioperativeopioid exposure.
- Optimize perioperative hemodynamic and fl uid balance management.
