Selection and Medical Management of Weight Loss Surgery Patients
As weight loss surgery continues to become a commonplace procedure for the treatment of morbid obesity, primary care and specialty providers face constantly changing treatment options, and a growing population of post-surgical patients that require a different treatment method. Recent advances in minimally invasive surgery have provided safer more effective surgical treatment options, and this course will provide participants with an understanding in the best treatment options for their patients. Furthermore, there is a growing population of patients who have undergone surgery, and whose treatment has required the implantation of a device, or the reconstruction of gastrointestinal anatomy that presents a new set of considerations for primary care and specialty physicians involved in the long term care of the patient. This course will address potential complications related to the surgical procedure, and best practices for diagnosis and treatment of other health-related events after the surgery.

This course is intended to meet the needs of primary care providers and other specialists who manage patients with morbid obesity. This course is also beneficial to residents and fellows in surgical or medical training, as well as physician assistants and nurse practitioners.
