Southeastern Consortium for Dermatology
The mission of the Southeastern Consortium for Dermatology (SEC) is to support the education and collaboration of dermatologists and dermatology residents, fellows, students and mid-level providers in the Southeastern United States. The annual meeting rotates each year among the 10 participating Dermatology programs with the educational focus being a thorough update in one or two areas of clinical dermatology selected from a core curriculum. The 2019 meeting will be hosted by the Department of Dermatology at Duke University Medical Center. The 2019 meeting will be hosted by Duke University and take place at the Durham Convention Center in Durham, NC on October 4 – 5, 2019. The two areas of Dermatology that will be a focus this year are Hair Disorders and Infectious Diseases. We will also have an update on psoriasis, blistering disorders, hidradenitis suppurativa and atopic dermatitis.

Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:
- Increase knowledge of alopecia areata regarding etiologic factors, how to more effectively use older topical and systemic agents, and the effectively use older topical and systemic agents, and the efficacy and safety of JAK inhibitors.
- Diagnose and effectively manage the most common hair loss conditions in women including CCCA, FPHL and FFA.
- Identify when procedural treatment for hair loss (PRP and microneedling) is indicated and when multimodality treatment is most effective in various hair loss disorders
- Increase knowledge of therapeutic options available for the treatment of psoriasis and how to choose the optimal treatment for each patient
- Increase knowledge of dermatologic surgical and medical management for hidradenitis suppurativa
- Identify the advances in therapeutic options for autoimmune blistering diseases
- Increase knowledge of genetic alterations in melanoma and how these impact the disease course
- Diagnose and effectively manage non-tuberculous mycrobacteria and human papilloma virus infections in the skin
- Recognize opportunities for international volunteerism in dermatology from various practice settings
