Stress First Aid Training- 2/3/2023

This four-hour training includes an introduction to the stress first aid framework and how peer support informs application of the stress continuum, four sources of orange zone stress, and the stress first aid model as a pre-clinical toolkit designed to persevere life, prevent further harm, and promote recovery. It also explores the underlying physiology and pathophysiology of stress and the aspirational state of resilience as well as varied methods used to reduce the risk for compassion fatigue and stress injury and promote coping and resilience among individuals and groups. It concludes with the application of the stress first aid model to contextually relevant scenarios relevant to social, occupational, and academic settings. (This course also includes 1 hour of online work prior to live session)

Learning Objectives

  • Explain how peer support informs the application of stress first aid.
  • Apply the stress continuum to operationalize stress first aid assessment.
  • Relate the 4 sources of orange zone stress to stress injury.
  • Introduce theoretical frameworks to conceptualize stress, stress appraisal, and stress injury.
  • Introduce assessment methods for resilience and stress injury among individuals and groups.
  • Discuss the concept of resilience in relation to stress exposure and stress injury.
  • Recognize the array of intervention methods used to reduce stress reactions and promote resilience among individuals and groups.
  • Outline the fundamentals of continuous aid, primary aid, and secondary aid.
  • Apply stress first aid strategies through case study application.
