SURGICAL CORE CURRICULUM

Overview

  • The purpose of this course is to address care needs and pertinent clinical practices of surgical patients regarding common surgical procedures, lines, tubes and drains, medical emergencies, and lab values and their importance. This course is intended for Nurses and Nurse Practitioners caring for the surgical step-down patient population. This course will run three to four times a year from 0830-1200. The dates are 3/28/23, 6/27/23, 9/26/23, 1/23/24, 4/23/24, 7/23/24, 10/22/24, 1/21/25, and 3/25/25.

Learning Objectives

Discuss specific care practices involving surgical patients and their unique care challenges,

Identify areas of concern for decompensation in surgical patients in regards to tubes and drains, medical emergencies, lab values and have improved interdisciplinary care as a result of better understanding of each others' roles while caring for this the surgical patient population.
