
TOBACCO DEPENDENCE MANAGEMENT
Description:
Community providers working at the health department and in similar environments care for an at-risk population for tobacco addiction. Tobacco use increases risk for various cancers among other health care issues. Education to medical community is needed to provide resources and support with treatment of addiction; currently no CME is being offered through CalvertHealth or other institutions to provide this service; this speaker has engaged regularly with our community on tobacco and vaping prevention and treatment opportunities. Offering this expertise to community providers is an effort to Improve health equity and decrease disparities.
Desired Result:
Improve knowledge and provide resources to change health care provider practice. Improve health care support of those who use tobacco or experience tobacco addiction.

Learning Objectives
- Train a new group of healthcare professionals to apply a sophisticated scientific knowledge base to practice; install the treatment of tobacco dependence with standards of professionalism and quality improvement inherent to other disciplines.
- Characterize the behavioral manifestations of ambivalence.
- Understand how smoking topography and cigarette pharmacology contribute to tobacco dependence.
- Review current Pharmacological Therapy for tobacco dependence and the evidence that supports their usage.
- Learn how to approach motivational interviewing for tobacco dependence.
