Transplant Infectious Disease Education

The transplant surgery APPs work very closely with the transplant infectious disease teams. However, there is a knowledge gap on the side of the transplant surgery APPs and they would greatly benefit from further education from the transplant ID teams to provide a more team-oriented and evidence-based approach to patient care.

Target Audience

Duke University Hospital Transplant APPs

Learning Objectives

1) Diagnosis and management of febrile neutropenia

2) Empiric coverage for gram negative and gram positive organisms

3) Empiric coverage for common community acquired and hospital acquired infections (PNA, UTI, intra-abdominal, biliary, cellulitis, etc) (with consideration to the transplant population)

4) Discuss common infections in the transplant population based on timing after transplantation

5) Discuss viral illnesses in the transplant population 6) Discuss the management of donor positive cultures
