WATTS CON AND DUSON IEE CLINICAL TEACHING WORKSHOP
The Clinical Teaching Workshop, co‑hosted by Watts College of Nursing and the Duke University School of Nursing Institute for Educational Excellence, is a collaborative, interactive professional development session designed for faculty and clinical educators seeking to strengthen teaching in real‑world practice settings. The workshop focuses on building clinical judgment, enhancing coaching skills, and creating inclusive, trauma‑informed learning environments, with presentations led by experienced educators from both institutions. Learning Objectives
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Apply evidence‑based clinical judgment models to support student reasoning, cue interpretation, prioritization, and decision‑making during patient care.
- Demonstrate effective coaching strategies through role‑play and guided practice to enhance student performance and confidence in clinical settings.
- Implement inclusive, trauma‑informed, and culturally responsive teaching practices that promote psychological safety and equitable learning experiences for all students.
- Facilitate structured debriefing and reflective dialogue to deepen student learning, reinforce clinical judgment, and support growth‑oriented feedback.
- Integrate evidence‑based strategies from current literature to strengthen the clinical learning environment and improve student outcomes across diverse clinical settings.
