Learning Objectives

  1. Discuss the prevalence of obesity in America
  2. Understand the health consequence of obesity and management in a primary care setting
  3. Describe weight biases and how it affects interactions with patients
  4. Initiate motivational interviewing to start a weight management conversation, set goals and break down barriers
  5. Implement a comprehensive lifestyle intervention including diet, physical activity and behavioral skills
  6. Prescribe appropriate pharmacotherapy to augment weight loss
  7. Know what medications may lead to weight gain
  8. Refer patients to appropriate specialists including bariatric surgery, dietician, therapy and medical weight loss. 
  9. Support the weight maintenance phase of weight control
