DICON DASON Fall 2016 Educational Symposium “Data for Action”

November 18, 2016

Practitioners will become more aware of how to respond to recent developments in infection prevention and antimicrobial stewardship, which will translate into action at the institutional and patient level.

In partnership with participating hospitals, DICON and DASON already collect and feed back data on infection rates, antimicrobial use and resistance at these institutions. So, these educational presentations will be combined with more active educational efforts that are ongoing at the facilities. Together, we hope this provides a multi-pronged approach to support their infection prevention and stewardship activities.

Impact of the program can be gauged from participant surveys and feedback, as well as more direct measures of infection rates, antimicrobial prescribing and resistance at the hospitals over time.

Learning Objectives

  1. Discuss and describe recent developments in regulations pertaining to infection prevention and antimicrobial stewardship in acute care hospitals in the US, and how hospitals can meet/exceed these standards.
  2. Identify ways in which infection prevention and antimicrobial stewardship programs can effectively develop interventions based on data such as infection rates, antimicrobial use, and antimicrobial resistance in their hospital
  3. Compare and contrast different approaches for negotiating and communicating to achieve success for infection prevention and stewardship program activities
  4. Discuss how participants can incorporate stewardship and infection prevention principles into practice in their institutions, at both the patient and institutional level
