The goal of this program is to present cutting-edge research clearly and concisely so that providers may make informed changes to their medical practice with confidence.

Learning Objectives

  • Delineate the best practices for when to refer advanced heart failure patients for evaluation for heart transplant or mechanical cardiac support
  • Describe how to select patients with persistent atrial fibrillation for treatment with novel anticoagulant agents or ablation therapy
  • Recognize how to identify patients for stress testing before undergoing catheterization procedures
  • Explain techniques used to assess myocardial viability in clinical practice
  • Recognize treatment options for aortic stenosis patients who require valve replacement
  • Describe evidence for lowering the incidence of cardiovascular disease by lowering lipids using drug therapies, or lowering cardiovascular risk through lifestyle interventions
  • Identify challenges and benefits to using angiotensin receptor neprilysin inhibitorsto treat patients with systolic heart failure
  • Explain the evidence for using left atrial appendage closure as a treatment strategy to prevent the formation of blood clots, and how to select patients for this procedure
  • Review and discuss current data and ongoing research for using dual antiplatelet therapy after drug-eluting stents in patients with acute coronary syndromes
