This course will provide an overview of principles and concepts of information technology with a focus on healthcare systems used in the healthcare setting and the industry seeking to serve these uses.  This course will assist the student in identifying the critical needs of the current health information systems including vendor and healthcare organization perspectives.

Learning Objectives

Identify and describe the basic knowledge that provides healthcare professionals with a common vocabulary and understanding of data-information-knowledge frameworks.

Describe and discuss clinical decision making systems and understand the development of clinical processes that support effective, efficient and safe patient-centered care.

Demonstrate the knowledge and skills to participate in the development and selection of an information system for healthcare systems.

Demonstrate the knowledge and skills in the evaluation of user-interface design.
