- Describe weight biases and how it affects interactions with patients
- Initiate motivational interviewing to start a weight management conversation, set goals and break down barriers
- Implement a comprehensive lifestyle intervention including diet, physical activity and behavioral skills
- Prescribe appropriate pharmacotherapy to augment weight loss
- Know what medications may lead to weight gain
- Refer patients to appropriate specialists including bariatric surgery, dietician, therapy and medical weight loss.
- Support the weight maintenance phase of weight control
