Objectives:
- Define ventilation, oxygenation, basic anatomy of the lungs, as well as indications for tracheostomy and mechanical ventilation.
- Describe external features of a ventilator, common modes of ventilation and associated terminology
- Interpret ventilator settings for appropriate patient selection for in-line speaking valve use.
- Describe swallow elevations and interventions for patients on mechanical ventilation.
