June 19, 2014

Welcome to the 2nd Annual Duke O’Brien Center for Kidney Research (DOCK) Symposium. The DOCK was established in 2012 through support from a P30 grant from the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), and by the Duke University School of Medicine and Department of Medicine. This symposium was developed for physicians and trainees who care for patients with kidney and heart disease. We designed the conference to highlight the problem of cardiovascular risk in patients with kidney disease and the multiplying effects on morbidity and mortality of kidney complications in patients with heart disease. In the course of this symposium, current concepts of understanding the interactions between the kidney and cardiovascularsystem will be presented, along with potential strategies for managing affected patients and mitigating risk. This CME activitywill benefit DUHS staff participating in the care of patients with renal and cardiovascular disorders
