This activity is designed to help clinicians learn how to manage patients undergoing complex surgery so they emerge faster, with less pain, nausea and vomiting; and hasten the return to functional status.

Learning Objectives

  1. Identify appropriate surgical frames and patient positioning for spine surgery.  Interpret and facilitate intraoperative neurologic monitoring (e.g. SSEP).
  2. Identify lung-protective ventilation techniques, facilitated by newer anesthesia machines.  Use ultrasound to provide anatomic diagnosis and to guide perioperative therapy.
  3. Utilize 2014 American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association (ACC/AHA) to risk-assess and manage outpatient patients.
