SID Journal- Non-invasive imaging technologies for the delineation of basal cell carcinomas

The Research Techniques Made Simple (RTMS) articles help demystify science and allow readers to better appreciate the scientific base of dermatology. Our goal is to allow readers to better understand the featured technique as well as the results and outcomes of studies that employ it. Each RTMS article explains in simple terms a widely used laboratory or clinical-research technique that has been employed in recent scientific (and often also clinical) publications.  Each article includes downloadable PowerPoint slides appropriate for use in journal clubs or other didactic sessions.  In addition, each article includes 5 multiple-choice questions available as an online quiz, allowing CME credit to be awarded to graduate dermatology readers who desire such credit

 

Profile Set-Up Instructions

Before you register/enroll for any course on the Duke CE Portal you must set up a profile with a valid ID/Password 

If you do NOT have a profile for the Duke CE Portal, please follow the steps below:

1. Go to the User Account Set-Up page at http://continuingeducation.dcri.duke.edu

2. Complete the form.

3. The Duke CE Portal will send a confirmation notice to your email address with your username and password information you will need it each time you visit the portal.

4. You will need to complete the certification process and login to the the Duke CE Portal at any time.

 

How to Register/Enroll Into a Course in ETHOS 

1. In the upper right hand corner of the Ethos Home Page, type in the name of the course, Research Techniques Made Simple (Journal-Based CME) - (RTMS), in the search bar.

2. Click on the web link which will then direct you to the course landing page.

3. Click on Take Course at the bottom of the page to complete the registration process.

4. Upon completion of registration, a confirmation email will be sent providing the course details.

 

Directions for this course

1. After creating a profile enroll into this session by following the directions above.

2. On the course "start page" you will see the requirements of this course represented by Icons. You will have to click on these icons in order to complete the requirements in course. Once you complete one, the following requirement will unlock.

3.. Read the CME Essentials Document .After you review the CME Essentials doucment return to the course start page.

4. Click on the Journal Aritcle icon (this will open in a new window). Read the article. After you read the article click on the link at the end of the article that will bring you back to this page.

5. Scroll to the bottom of this page and click take course. You will see The icons CME Essentials and Journal Article checked off as completed tasks. 

6. Click on the Post Test icon. Click "preview quiz". A pop up message will appear asking you to confirm taking the quiz, click, "ok". Complete the quiz. When you are finished click "submit and finish". Click "ok" on the popup message that asks if you want to submit the quiz.

7. Review your Post Test results. If you did not make an 80% passing score you will need to retake the quiz (you allowed to do this an additional 2 times). Click the "start again" button.

8. After successfully passing the post test with an 80% or above click the "return to start page" button.

9. Cick on the Evaluation icon and complete the evaluation entirely. At the bottom click "Submit"

10. Attest to your credits in the box presented (up to 1 hour). Check the "I agree" box. Click the "claim credit" button.

11. You will be presented with a link to download your Certificate. Click on that link and your certificate will open a a pdf document.

Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Describe a specific laboratory or clinical research technique or statistical methodology that is used to achieve a better scientific or clinical understanding of various areas of dermatology.
  • Demonstrate how the selected technique has been employed in recent dermatology peer-reviewed publications.
  • Discuss its relative strengths and limitations related to the field of dermatology.
  • Translate an understanding of a research methodology into an analysis of published data that can improve the care of patients with various dermatologic conditions.
  • Appreciate recent findings relevant to dermatologic disease pathogenesis and therapeutic advances.
