Surgeons Teaching Surgeons Workshop

This workshop will enhance the quality and efficiency of surgical teaching, which will ultimately lead to improved surgical outcomes for patients of both the surgical educators and future patients of surgical learners.

 

Learning Objectives

Understand current pressures on surgical teaching including reduction in resident work hours, increased emphasis on quality, increased time pressures for attending surgeons, and ethical considerations in surgical learning.

Describe approaches for teaching inexperienced surgeons including surgical “boot camp”, breaking down complex procedures into simple steps, addressing sub-standard skills.

Utilize various surgical teaching techniques including the tiered approach, surgical videos for both preparation and feedback, and surgical simulation models.
