Selection and Medical Management of Weight Loss Surgery Patients
Overview
Learn how to manage patients who have undergone weight loss surgery. This course is intended to teach medical professionals about the latest advances in metabolic and weight loss surgical techniques, the identification of patients suitable for surgery, and the weight loss surgery evaluation process. This course focuses on the long term post-surgical medical management of the patient for successful weight loss, the management of co-morbidities, and identifying the potential risks. This course will be led by multidisciplinary expert faculty form Duke University Medical Center. This symposium is an intensive and interactive two day program designed to develop the knowledge and skills required to practice and teach evidence-based care in Adult Reconstruction.

Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of the activity, participants should be able to:
- Identify the disease of morbid obesity and its co-morbidities.
- Increase knowledge of weight loss surgery procedures and procedure outcomes.
- Discuss common operative and post-operative complications.
- Discuss how to manage changes after surery; diabetes, cardiovacular disease, bone metabolism, pregnancy, depression and endocrine diseases.
- Support and help patients achieve and maintain successful weight loss.
